Mines of Memory Oral History

The Mines of Memory is an Oral History collection of 24 items available as digital audio files and digitized transcripts. The collection includes interviews with 23 workers at Snibston and Whitwick collieries and subjects covered include work at the coal face, work with particular machines, surveying, work in the stores, the engine shed, the canteen, office work, work culture, relations with management, strikes, and mining galas. The aim of this Oral History project was to enhance the Snibston museum’s interpretation of the mining machinery, potentially including sound clips in front of the objects.

The dataset uploaded in Box includes the public available transcripts from Mines of Memory, and a selection of audio recordings.
